This is a 3.5mm TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) stereo audio jack that can be used to input audio into your circuits or fit into mobile phones and mp3 players. This male audio plug comes with a plastic screw-on shed that covers the solder terminals inside of the jack. The shed can be removed if one wants to solder wires to the audio jack pins.

Specifications of the 3.5mm Audio Plug

The TRS denotes the three conductors: Tip (T), Ring (R) and Sleeve (S), which segment the audio plug into three sections. This connector is used for transmitting analog audio signals. It allows two separate signals to be transmitted at a time. The tip acts as left channel to transmit one signal while the Ring acts as the right channel to transmit the other signal. The Sleeve is connected to ground.
